The energy in New York is growing. When we say energy, we mean sexual energy. We have seen more tourists, more people and more cars filling the streets each week that goes by. And Wall Street traders have not even returned to the city yet. They will be back next week.
For a year we’ve been hearing about “pent-up” demand for Las Vegas
We’ve been reading local blogs and watching Las Vegas news media journalists tweet about Las Vegas’ “pent-up” demand for over a year. The tweets have been boasting that “Las Vegas is back” for about 6 months now. But for the past year, Las Vegas casinos have had to lower rates so low that the level of violence on the Las Vegas Strip caused a major concern amongst the local authorities.
The hotel rooms in Las Vegas are being filled with anyone they can get. The term “warm stiffs” would be appropriate but these tourists are frugal travelers taking advantage of super cheap Las Vegas hotel rooms. The tourists we’ve seen are mostly minorities. The non-minorities we’ve seen are families who bring their dogs and kids. The family, kid friendly, dog friendly crowd is not the same pre-pandemic vegas everyone remembers.

When people say a place has a “good energy, what they are referring to is culture. Culture is derived from a number of factors. No one has been able to master the art of creating cultures. Cultures cannot be forced or they seem fabricated.
New York City culture means very attractive women walking through Soho and Midtown wearing flimsy, high cut skirts and low cut blouses. The New York men are fit, educated and socially conscious. The sexual energy is amazing. It’s what drives New York City. Girls came from all over the world to see Wynn’s Nightlife’s Night Club XS![]()
Las Vegas had that New York energy for a moment. Between 2013-2016, Las Vegas had an electric sexual vibe. Ads, marketing and movies centered around sex and sex workers. In 2009, the City Center had just opened along with the Wynn. Attractive, fit, single (or at least single for the night) men and women could be seen gallivanting around those casinos every night. The women would wear the latest, sexiest fashions. At the time, the look was thigh highs with an ultra tight, hi-cut skirt or dress. The men wore suits. They were mostly Wall Street or Chicago Merc celebrating a big trade or a wedding.
Actually, no one needed an excuse to visit Vegas back then. Everyone wanted to see Las Vegas’ nightlife. The Wynn’s new Night Club XS had that sexual energy. EDM was just blossoming over to mainstream. The Wynn’s XS was the largest grossing nightclub in the world, surpassing New York City nightclubs. The Wynn had the best DJs with the most current hits. Everyone from New York was going to Vegas to party. Then, 2017 happened to Las Vegas. Trump took office. The Resorts World Project was put on hold. The Malaysian currency took a nose dive.
Mandalay Bay Shooting shut down Las Vegas— for about a week
The Mandalay Bay Shooting on October 1st was the biggest shooting tragedy ever in the United States. 700 people were shot at a country music festival with military weapons. Las Vegas was the center of attention. The shooter’s intent was to destroy Las Vegas’ economy.
Subsequently, MGM Resorts International sold the Mandalay Bay, the Delano, the Bellagio, Circus Circus and the MGM GRAND in 2020. After the pandemic, MGM Resorts International sold the Aria and the Vdara in 2021. We are not sure if the Aria and Vdara were part of the MGM’s original plan to divest out of Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Sands sold the Venetian and the Palazzo and the Palms along with 3 other Station Casinos remain closed. Las Vegas has shifted demographics but they are doing their best to keep anyone from noticing.
Resorts World plans were devised before the shooting, before the pandemic, before Steve Wynn bailed
Steve Wynn has impeccable timing. My Dad would have liked Steve Wynn. As my Dad would say, “it’s always better to be lucky than smart.”
Steve Wynn was a part of a sex scandal. He was required to pay the employee $7 million and he was banned from owning a casino in Las Vegas. He was forced to sell his entire stake in Wynn; $2 Billion. That was in 2018. Steve Wynn was able to divest from Las Vegas before MGM Resorts and the Las Vegas Sands could dump their properties in 2021.
Resorts World ran out of cash when Trump was elected
The Malaysian currency took a nose dive when Trump was elected. The Resorts World project was put on hold in 2016. The plan was to invade Steve Wynn and Sheldon Adelson’s space in Las Vegas. That plan was devised in 2013 when Las Vegas’ nightlife was the center of the EDM World. Club XS was bringing in more than $100 million dollars a year in 2014. Vegas was booming, largely due to the nightlife. Big deals were made quickly. Three professional sports teams were formed or purchased within 2 years: the Golden Knights, the Oakland Raiders and the Las Vegas Aces. They had to build an arena for the hockey team and a football stadium for the NFL. Las Vegas was booming at such a fast pace it was difficult to keep track of all the projects between 2014 and 2016.
The shooting in 2017 made vegas slow down for about a week. Then, it was back to its screaming pace. No plans had changed. The NFL stadium was still going up. Resorts World was boasting they’d be open by 2020.
Resorts World had one vision: to put Steve Wynn out of business
Resorts World opened on June 24th 2021. The property sits across the street from the Wynn. They painted the Resorts World the same color scheme, shape and design as the Wynn. Several industry insiders said Resorts World was planning to buy majority shares of Wynn stock in a hostile takeover. That plan got squashed when a judge sided with Wynn and required Genting (Resorts World’s parent company) to change their colors in 2018.
Genting received an additional $1.1 billion from outside investors in 2019 to bring the total to $4.2 billion, the most expensive casino ever built in Las Vegas. The project got new legs and was on pace to finish until the pandemic shut everything down. Now, Genting will not have to worry about competing with Steve Wynn or Sheldon Adelson. Everyone is either dead or gone.
Does the Christian demographic feel like the same Las #Vegas experience that you remember?
We hear a lot about pent up demand for vacationers to head to cities like Las Vegas. The media and local bloggers continually send videos showing a packed Allegiant Stadium, tons of people walking the strip, and casinos games filled with guests. That might “look” like Vegas is back but is the sexually energy back in Vegas?
This looks more like a Christian revival than the old XS Night Club. Note the "Excess" at Resorts World. They really missed the mark. People today are less wasteful than they were in 2016.
