Harry Styles knows that sugar is a drug. Here are the lyrics to his song "Watermelon sugar high": ![]() Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high Watermelon sugar high I just wanna taste it, I just wanna taste it Watermelon sugar high The message is clear: "Sugar gets you high". Explains why many stars, like Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus & Katy Perry are sugar addicts. Young celebrities today may not yet consume drugs (yet) but they are consuming an enormous amount of sugar and caffeine while promoting it to your kids Your kids will get fat but they stay thin because they must go the gym or vomit after every meal in order to stay thin. ![]() Just because your kids are not doing drugs, that does not mean they are free from dangerous addictions. Sugar & caffeine are a deadly combo: the withdrawals are so severe than many sugar addicts become obese, fall into depression and even contemplate suicide. To alleviate the symptoms of depression (boredom, irritability, lethargy, low energy, suicidal thoughts), the sugar addict will drink coffee or eat more sugar-- or both. This is only a temporary solution. The cycle repeats and the sugar addict falls deeper into their sugar addiction. ![]() A sugar addiction is two-fold: it is a physical dependency combined with a psychological addiction. In order to free myself from sugar addiction, I had to abstain from eating any sugar for at least 45 days. That stopped the physical dependency but I still had cravings still happened because fat cells contains memories. As I burned off fat, I experienced a plethora of emotional feelings that I did not find comforting. In the past, I would eat sugary foods to curb my anxiety. I was stuffing my feelings as I was stuffing my face. I had to deal with my emotional memories before I could proceed to the next level. That took about 3 years. There is more to discuss on the after affects of sugar addiction for another article. The World Health Organization recommends no more than 50g of sugar per day. To improve health, the W.H.O says you should eat less than 25 grams of sugar per day. Excessive consumption of sugar has been implicated in the onset of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, dementia, and tooth decay. Numerous studies have tried to clarify those implications, but with varying results, mainly because of the difficulty of finding populations for use as controls that consume little or no sugar. ![]() The American Heart Association follows suit. They recommend men consume a maximum of 36 grams of sugar per day. Women should consume less than 25 grams per day. To put 25 grams of sugar per day into contact, one apple has 23 grams of added sugar. If you drink coffee & milk you can add another another 14gs of sugar. *Note caffeine does not add sugar but has the same side-effects as sugar, making a cup of coffee doubly bad. ![]() If you ate a Quest protein bar for breakfast then you can add another 16g of sugar. Contrary to what the food industry is telling you, subtracting fiber or 'sugar alcohols' from your sugar intake is not scientifically proven (or logical). When I ate sugar alcohols and did not count fiber, I got fat AF. According to this package, a TRIPLE CHOCOLATE BROWNIE BAR has zero (0) grams of sugar and only 4 grams of carbohydrates. Food scientists engineered was food that did not fall into a monosaccharide or polysaccharide classification. They invented as chemical they called "sugar alcohol". Sugar Alcohols process sugar in such a way that the molecular compounds do not resemble a sugar molecule. Therefore, its sweet but technically its not sugar. Sugar alcohols are still sugar. ![]() Today, we know dieting is not a restriction of calories but rather a combination of chemistry that results in weight loss. The body responds to a high protein diet different than a high sugar diet. Excess sugar is so dangerous to the body that the brain does not wait until it receives a signal that you consumer sugar. Instead, the body put sweet taste buds on the tip of your tough to tell the brain too preemptively release insulin. In fact, all you need to do is look at a photo of something sweet and your brain will preemptively release insulin. Insulin removes excess sugar from the bloodstream by storing it as fat. It also makes you tired, sluggish, irritable, depressed and fat. Thats how dangerous sugar is to the body. The brain goes into shutdown mode as soon as you think about consuming sugar. No Such Thing as Brownies with Zero Grams of Sugar![]() There is no such thing as sugary, sweet foods that contain no grams of sugar. The food industry created a "sugar alcohol" be isolating isometric molecules to create a new substance that is not recognized as sugar but is still sweet. Although technically sugar alcohols are not sugars, the F.D.A. requires food manufactures to label the amount of sugar alcohols. Whoever said you could not count sugar alcohols as sugar was a sugar addict. We all want to believe that we can eat chocolate chip cookies everyday. As adults, we know chocolate chip cookies are not healthy. ![]() ![]() You're kidding yourself if you think you can eat a chocolate chip cookie dough protein bar without gaining weight. Today, losing weight is a science, not a fad diet. It has been scientifically proven that a high protein and low sugar (less than 25 grams per day) more healthy than eating excess of 25 grams of sugar per day. Fad diets, like vegans, fasting, or keto are unhealthy. The amount of sugar a vegan consumes is enormous. The only way a vegan can stay thin is by constantly working out. This is another form of an eating disorder known as excorcisexia. This is where a person consumes so many calories during a day that they need to train for an Iron Man triathlon just to fit. This would be a sign that your diet is not working. You should not have to run an iron man to stay thin. American Heart Association Sugar Recommendation![]() The American Heart Association (AMA) makes no joke about it: sugar should be limited to less than 36 grams per day for men and 25 grams per day for women. Any more than 36 grams of sugar per day will result in heart disease. A recent analysis found that this labeling could potentially prevent nearly 1 million cases of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes over the next two decades. Listing the total amount of added sugars means that consumers will no longer have to search through the many different aliases for added sugars to try and determine how much added sugar a food or drink contains. (source: American Heart Association) So, what’s a smart shopper to do? It’s tempting to look to alternative sugars as a magical solution. Products made with honey, maple syrup, coconut sugar or turbinado sugar, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup, and dextrose, for example, are perceived as healthier choices. Don’t be fooled. Your body sure isn’t! Too much sugar is too much, no matter the source. It all comes down to how fast the sugars get absorbed. All that extra sugar gets is not so good for your system! (source: American Heart Association) The World Health Organization, the American Heart Association and the Jedi agree: stop eating more than 25 grams of sugar per day to be healthy.
