Did Richard Branson really think all he needed to do was buy a casino in Las Vegas?
Sir Richard Branson has wanted a hotel in Las Vegas for 20 years. His hotel group, Virgin + some outside investors (otherwise known as ‘other people’s money’), purchased the hotel and casino from the Hard Rock. Hard Rock built the building in 1995. The operated the casino as a sexy, off the beaten path, underground. You smelt a whiff of evil as you passed under the words ‘Roll the laugh’in bones,’ that sit a over your head of the entrance to the Hard Rock Hotel.
Virgin Hotels swept in and spent $500 million to purchase the property and another $200 million to remodel. The casino will be operated by the Mohegan Sun.
Las Vegas is at full capacity. Most casinos were packed this weekend. The Virgin was empty.
