Playing Dodge Ball with Don Webb
LAS VEGAS, NV: The Jedi attended the Las Vegas Stadium Review Board quarterly meeting in Las Vegas on Thursday, January 16, 2020. We were hoping to get some answers surrounding the major roof raising delay caused by the ill-fitting roof trusses built incorrectly in June of 2019. But, Don Webb, the COO of Las Vegas Stadium Company ducked structural integrity questions while Board Member and Local 827 Treasurer, Tommy White, ducked out of the entire meeting.
Don Webb came with prepared speeches. He compared the roof raising project to building a “dog house”. When asked about the severity of overstressing of structural members of the Stadium, Don Webb minimized the dangerousness of the roof raising project by making a comparison to building a “dog house”. Last year, Don Webb compared danger and preciseness the roof raising project to a 17-Acre Swiss watch.
Webb also said that he does not believe that "weather" will affect the scope of his project. To ask Don Webb questions regarding the structural safety of the Stadium was akin to playing dodge-ball. He became noticeably agitated when asked about the structural safety of the Stadium. He diverted the conversation to vague analogies and interrupted reporters' questions before they could finish.
JediRich.com Studios was the first to report that a truss came down in June 2019, and first to report that the trusses did not fit, and the first & only website and/or news outlet to warn the authorities that the roof would be a structural problem. In November 2019, the roof cables overstressed structural members of the stadium that caused steel bolts to snap resulting in a delay until May 2020.
Stay tuned for more updates as we watch this stadium come together. It is looking gorgeous.
