Many of the homeless in Las Vegas are veterans who suffer from PTSD. This is a punishment on the poor because If you are mentally ill but your parents are wealthy, you won't be homeless." A reason to have a Government is to protect the poor from being exploited (or jailed) by wealthy, powerful casino moguls. Thats why we have child labor laws. If we didn't have a government, then the casinos would hire 9 years olds to clean your room (#VisitTaiwan). Thanks, government. But today, here in the United States, the homeless and mentally ill of Las Vegas do not have a voice. The homeless were once protected by the US Constitution. But now, Vegas is overrun by greedy business owners and corrupt government officials. #ThisIsVegas ![]() I know this first hand. My sister is schizophrenic. She cannot function at a job. She cannot stay at home. She was also a varsity track athlete and a Boston University graduate majoring in environmental studies. She gets $600 a month from the state. How long before she would be homeless? Schizophrenia is hard on the family and friends because you know a person and then you don't. They slowly drift off due to the excessive amount of prescription drugs the doctors constantly administer. Marijuana edibles seemed to alleviate her negative thoughts. She seemed calm and happy. However. the doctors here in Vegas warned her that she cannot take marijuana or she will lose her $600 a month benefit. That's all she gets. ![]() Annette constantly hears voices. There is no cure. She roams the streets of Las Vegas because she is embarrassed of her condition. When the voices are strong, she will leave; sometimes for days or even a week. We don't know where she goes or what she does. She just doesn't fit in anywhere. However, she does not like to be constrained. Her name is Annette Lightowler. If you see her on the street, tell her her brother said hi. As an entertainer, do you feel it’s right performing where they don’t take care of the poor and mentally ill? Artists: Pressure your agents to pressure their clients to make the Las Vegas City Council repeal this cruel and unusual law. What kind of society punishes people for being mentally ill or poor? Their lives already suck: they are mentally and poor. This is a punishment on the poor because If you are mentally ill but your parents are wealthy, you won't be homeless. Are LVMPD Officers Trained in Dealing with Non-Criminal Psychotics?
